I work in a variety of media including encaustic, watercolour, watercolour batik, collage and inks, often combining them. Currently I am most captivated by the tactile nature of beeswax. I exploit its wonderful properties through fusing, scraping, scratching and collaging; often using wax with photography, inks, oil pigments, watercolour and rice paper.
Inspired by travel and more often, my own backyard, my paintings connect me to the world at my doorstep. Exploring and creating are what motivate me. I love experimenting with new techniques.
Encaustic is an ancient medium that uses beeswax mixed with paint and damar resin to create a luscious, versatile surface. It is a spontaneous, translucent medium that is gaining in popularity as more and more people fall in love with it, as I have.
Watercolour batik involves painting over wax that is used as a resist, on Japanese rice paper. When the painting is complete, the wax is removed, leaving a richly saturated image.
